TV on The Radio
Last week I noticed that TV on The Radio had released another show in New York, this time the show was at Radio City Music Hall. I purchased those tickets in a snap and we counted down the days. Last night we got to see them play and I must say that Radio City Music Hall is the most beautiful venue I’ve ever been too. I felt like a king wherever I went. The bathrooms had a waiting area with...

Night and Day
Tonight as we walked home from work we noticed a movie shooting a little up the street. I never knew that they would simulate day during night but it makes sense. No traffic, quiet streets.

LCD Soundsystem Grand Finale
Two months ago we found out that one of our favorite bands was quitting and also that they were putting on one final show to say goodbye to their fans. This show happened to be in New York, their home town and where we luckily reside. We managed to score four floor tickets by waiting for over five hours in sub zero temp. When we got home we realized that this was a pretty big deal because we...

Brooklyn Flea Now Outside
Last weekend we moved into our first New York apartment and it happens to be quite close to where Brooklyn Flea is held. We had the opportunity to check it out again and this time we got to enjoy some sun!

Vinyl
Silly me, I’ve gotten a bit of security and some cash in my pocket and this is the first thing I buy. To be honest there is nothing quite like the crackle of vinyl and I don’t regret a thing. If you’ve never experienced music this way you have no idea what you are missing.

The New Hood
So a bit of great news to report. We landed our first New York apartment! It’s quant and in a character building BUT it’s in an amazing area. As a celebration we went for breakfast in our new area of living!

Freelancer
It’s been a pretty crazy week here in New York. There have been two people working full time in our apartment hold. I’ve been called in to a small design firm for some on site freelance help and have been doing the standard 9-6. They want me back for at least one more week which is awesome! Here are a few snaps of the office with a pic of my supervisor Ocho. She likes to check up on me...

Huffington Post Party
On Tuesday we got to check out the reveal of a neat product called the QuaDror. It was a double party hosted by Huffington Post and IDNY held at New Museum. Free drinks, free entry and a fun night out.
Here’s more on the event. Link ← Try to spot me in the main image.

Neptune
In our search for a new apartment we took a scouting trip to Park Slope Brooklyn as well as Queens. In our LONG day of walking we stopped for a late lunch at Neptune.
The menu front says it all.

To IKEA with purpose
The other day we decided to take a trip to search out some potential IKEA furniture. We are finally at a place where we are looking for an apartment and will need to start investing in some sitting/sleeping apratus. So far all we have for furniture is a few fold out chairs and a 2 foot by 4 foot table. Half of this table is my office and the other half is the Wife’s office. It’s so...

Darwin Deez
On Saturday we had the opportunity to check out Darwin Deez at the Bowery and I’d like to say that this was one of the best shows I’ve been to in a very long time. When the opening bands were on, Darwin and band mates danced in the audience and watched the show with the rest of us. When they finally took the stage they had silly dance routines, party music and all sorts of fun...

ABC Home
Today was errand day but while we were out we noticed this store and had to check it out. Amazing furniture with somewhat affordable prices. My favourite items in this place were animal shaped pillows with a screen print on the front.

Dogmatic
A few nights ago, we were walking around Union Square and we found this fun Hot Dog restaurant. They had a menu of healthier fast food. No Nitrates, Preservatives or any other bad stuff.

Union Square Subway Station
The other day I realized that some of you might have an interest in seeing what the subway station looks like. People often stand two feet or less from the edge as the Subway Rushes in, it’s pretty scary fast. Every now and then you see a rat scurry through the rails. There are often Buskers and at Union Square especially you hear drums almost all the time.

MBFW
On Sunday we made our way to the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week event. This is located a few blocks west of Central Park. There were many celebrity editors from fashion magazines there. I didn’t know any of these fashionistas but Wife was very excited to see these people as they rushed by. I did however recognize Jeanne Beker from Fashion TV. She’s the first blurry vision we snapped who...

A Belated Valentines Day
Happy belated Valentines Day everyone! we kind of forgot it was Valentines Day until the evening. We spent the day walking around NY for the last time as a funemployed couple in New York. Wife started work on Tuesday.
We walked all over the Soho area and stumbled upon a super fun store called Evolution. It had all sorts of bones and heads and stuffed animals. They had a rhino skull and I was...
The Little Girl
Today we saw a little girl having a fit on the train, she was about seven and she was losing her mind. She was with her grandmother and seemed to be very tired. As the little girl flailed about I watched the grandmother try to keep her composure and for some reason this made me start to laugh because she looked like a shaking can ready to explode. As time went on I was very smiley and trying to...

Bedford
Today was a nice day and we decided to go for a walk. We wanted to see some of the shops on Bedford and we found this neat and very pricey antique shop Ugly Luggage. They had an old 2 track reel to reel recorder… I wish I had 9 million dollars to buy it.

LCD Finale
Well as some of you may have heard LCD Soundsystem is retiring. We heard this sad news yesterday after dinner and learned about a final show in New York. We quickly decided to try to line up to attempt some pre sale tickets as this is one of our must see bands. So at 2AM today we woke up to an alarm clock and bundled up with many layers as the weather was a chilly -10C. We traveled to the Lower...

Williamsburg Cafe
This past weekend we decided to go for brunch, which by the way is very big in NY. You get one plate and unlimited Mimosa’s or Sangria. We decided that we weren’t in the mood for drinks but wanted a delicious breakfast so Williamsburg Cafe is where we landed. It’s about a 10 minute walk from our place. This is hands down the best cafe we’ve been to since arriving in NY.

Best Coast
Since we’ve been here for 2 months and things are starting to look like they are going to work out. We’ve decided to start to go and do things that cost a bit of money. Best Coast!

Brooklyn Bridge
Tonight we decided to take a long walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. We started at Fulton Avenue which is amazing! It looks like how I imagine the street where the Cosby family lives. As we rode the subway home we noticed a fun little dog in a bag that stole everyones gaze for the whole ride home. He looked like a little fox. We decided his name was Charlie “Foxy” Brown.

Laundry Day/Snow Day
Yesterday was laundry day. Someone we know asked us to take some snaps of the local laundromat so this is it. The second photo depicts how fun it is to sit and wait for 80 minutes. Also, I think today is a snow day! there is about 12 inches of snow on the ground which doesn’t really make sense to me. The streets and sidewalks have already been cleared off. I remember 2 snow days in Winnipeg...

Champs
Today was a cold day by New York standards, minus 8! We went for a walk down Grand Street and then up a random residential street on the way back where we stumbled upon Champs. A small family run vegan bakery. As we ate it felt like we were sitting in someone’s kitchen. The treats were quite good.

Custom is the new vintage
Today we took a little trip down to the Brooklyn Flea Market. It is usually an outdoor event but because of the winter it is now in a historical building of sorts. There were so many inspiring merchants to look at with Jewelery, Custom Barn Tables, Retro Signage as well as the usual flea market goodies. Here are a few snaps of our walk through.

The Vortex
Today we went to the Vortex it is about 3 minutes from where we live. It’s basically a pricey, eccentric, thrift store. I stopped by there a few weeks back as it is across from the local laundromat and noticed that they have tons of old discarded family photos. I wanted to pick some up at a later date for inspiration. While I didn’t end up buying any photos I snagged a pretty sweet...

Museum of the Moving Image
Today we took a trip to Queens and spent some time at the Museum of the Moving Image. It just opened to the public today and it was free! some downsides to that rule though. 1 million people! Still we definitely had some great fun. We got to see a lot of really cool props and set designs as well as try out some voice over work for the movie “babe”.

Peter's Since 1969
Tonight we decided to go for a bit of a walk for our dinner. We were in the mood for a soup and sandwich. We ended up walking a few extra blocks to the Williamsburg Bridge and then we decided to head back. We ended up at “Peter’s Since 1969”.

Matt Torrey's
The other night we went to scout out a pub in the surrounding neighborhoods. We ended up at Matt Torrey’s. The Atmosphere was great and so was the music! There was a slight smell of melting cheese in the air because they were whipping up panini’s all night.

Nate Berkus
Last week we snagged some tickets to check out the Nate Berkus show, it was super fun to see the set of a show. Because of the “Blizzard” the audience was a lot smaller than *the last time we were there. They had some secret guests and one of them completely blew our minds! Unfortunately, we can’t say who it is but if you know us I’m sure we could let you know personally. *...

Bad news guys, no ketchup chips
Since we’ve been here we have started to notice a few little things that we are missing. Mainly treats so far that aren’t particularly favourites but once you realize you don’t have something you kind of want it more. This is the closest we’ve found to ketchup chips they are almost there, but not quite.

The 3 Kings and Buzz Lightyear
Today we went out for a walk to get some coffee and noticed that there was a parade happening just down the street. We excitedly strolled over to the action and found the Three Kings parade. There was a marching band, flag bearers, people dressed up like the three kings and of course Buzz Lightyear. Our neighbourhood continues to surprise us everyday.

Provence En Boite
The Paper Source store led us into the Carroll Gardens neighbourhood. After shopping we decided that we wanted to pick up a sweet treat. We ended up finding the “Provence En Boite” cafe and restaurant. We ordered the Creme Brule, Walnut tart, coffee and in-house made hot chocolate. The atmosphere in the cafe was great for a chat and people watching. The desserts were amazing, as they...
Paper Source
Today we were on the subway and spotted a girl with a fun looking calendar. So we decided to hunt out the store by the name on the bag. It led us to Paper Source in Brooklyn. With calendars, paper, stamps and fun shaped chalk boards we both immediately fell in love with this store. We left full of inspiration for future projects and a desire to come back. The best part was that this store led...

Lillies for a $10 Lunch
A few days ago we were walking around Union Square and decided to go for lunch. I was really in the mood for a pint and a sandwich and Lillies is where we ended up. This is probably one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time, with super thin toasted rye and fries made just how I like them. I think we’ll definitely be heading back to Lillies some time soon.

Whole Foods
Today we decided to dig a little deep into our pockets and check out Whole Foods, an organic supermarket in Union Square. The food there is laid out so beautifully that it looks like a magazine spread. I must say that the food tastes just as good as it looks. But don’t be fooled, our usual grocery store is more like a corner store with very limited selection.

Candyland
We found a crazy candy store close to 60th and 3rd Ave. As we walked in our teeth curled up with the intense smell of sugar in the air. They had a lot of neat little elements like candy embedded in the floor and gum ball tables.

Islands
Today we took a trip to Roosevelt Island which is basically a little sliver between New York and Queens. While we were there we found out that there was an Air Tram. While on Roosevelt Island we looked at all of the nice apartments and admired the calm little slice of land. You could hear the city insanity across the East River.

The Video Store
Tonight we went for a bit of a walk down 1st, 2nd and 3rd Avenue which is located in the south east of New York. We stumbled upon a neat little video store called Video & Music. For those of you tuning in from our home town. This place had a very “Jumbo Video” vibe.
Anyways, we checked out some really cool videos and one especially caught my eye in the “Blaxploitation”...
